Antwali (アントワリ) is the leader of Fist and a worker that operates in the Free City of Vadis.

Appearance[]

Antwali is a brawny man who stood about two meters tall. Though his most eye-catching trait was not his height, but his entire body. His body was thick from his chest, arms, legs and neck.

From his physique, one would be inclined to believe that he had the blood of other species mixed in. Though in truth he was in a pure human who just happened to have been blessed with a burly body and exceptional physical abilities. His looks gave him some wild features, giving the impression that there was something bestial about him that put people who saw his face on guard.

Personality[]

Antwali appears to be a cautious and logical man that likes to avoid pointless battles. In his youth it was noted he had idealistic aspirations of being an adventurer, wanting to play the role of a hero like those sung by bards. Though over the years, Antwali realized the harsh reality and the futility of a life, so he prioritized earning his livelihood through a stable source of income by hunting the undead. Despite his motivations for money, he still had some care for the welfare of others and a definite pride in the fact that Fist were defending the peace of the Free City of Vadis by slaying the undead.

Background[]

Not much is known about Antwali's past, though he had first become an adventurer because he admired the heroes in fairy tales. A lot of things had happened and Antwali eventually came face to face with reality. He quit as an adventurer and became a working, working in the shadows, forming the team of Fist. A few years later he led his team to acquire a reputation as one of the best worker teams in the Free City of Vadis.

The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains Arc[]

Main article: The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains I and The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains II Arc

Antwali led Fist along with four porters and an Inspector on a routine undead subjugation into the Katze Plains. Their destination was Broken Tower 1. He and Bunaz stood at the front as the vanguard. The warrior and the ranger spoke together to confirm their team's plan to just head to the Broken Tower and clean up the surrounding area and then return back to the city. Antwali was sure this was the wisest decision as the negotiations for the current job dragged longer than usual, making them unable to get any support from other teams to partner up with.

While they did not spot any undead, Candelon Gaelian alerted everyone about undead presences. Momentarily gathering together, Antwali and Bunazi could not see any undead in front of their path. This led them to believe they were dealing with an invisible or subterranean undead. The team had either the option of fight or retreating back to the city. The leader decided to chose the former, and implement their usual ritual of impressing the porters by having Envario cast his strongest [Fireball] spell onethe undead. After Bunaz drew the undead out of the ground, revealing them to be six Grave Dead, the magic caster proceeded to use his magic to wipe them out.

After thoroughly impressing the porters and the Inspector finishing recording the kill undead kill count, Antwali took the opportunity to ask the Inspector questions bout the future of the Free City. Antwali had previously wanted to ask his queries back in the city, but decided to wait until they were outside its boundaries to avoid eavesdropping with the annexation of the Katze Plains by the Sorcerer Kingdom. The Inspector did not have any concrete information about where Vadis was headed, but did confirm that the funding to the city was cut by the Re-Estize Kingdom and Baharuth Empire. Not only that the temples were considering reducing the bounties on the undead which would no doubt affect the workers.

Ultimately it fell down to what the Sorcerer Kingdom intended to do with Vadis, but Antwali suspected that this was probably his team's last job working in Vadis. Fortunately Bunaz distracted the team of the gloomy future by turning their focus back on their journey to the Broken Tower.[1]

When the team caught sight of the Broken Tower, Antwali and Bunaz noticing the lack of signal flags raised, suspected something was wrong. Antwali asked Candelon if he received any undead reaction, though the priest stated that there was none. Envario suggested that he could use [Fly] to inspect it, but before Antwali could make a decision, Bunaz had another way determine if something was wrong. By enhancing his smell, Bunaz detected that blood was recently spilled in the area. Taking more caution, Antwali allowed Envario to use a summoned wolf to scout ahead and allowed Candelon and Dietz to inform the porters of the situation.

The wolf later returned with a bloody scrap of cloth, indicating that there were corpses within the tower. The leader of Fist, thinking back to the information he had collected before departing the city, about the teams that frequented this base, noted that they were not people who would have been so easily defeated. Plus he never heard of a strong undead existing around the area, leading him to suspect that whatever killed the teams in the tower came from somewhere else.

On what action to take, even though the workers had very little information on what they were dealing with, at Candelon's insistence to take care of the dead, Antwali decided to head up and look at the surroundings of the tower before deciding whether or not to enter it.

Antwali led in the front with Envario, his wolf summon and Bunaz. Together the three surveyed the damage to the defensive wall of the tower and also found three bodies. And after Candelon confirmed that the tower was safe from the undead, Antwali gave the order to head inside the walls to do an investigation.

While Antwali stood guard with Dietz as prayers were conducted for the dead by Candelon, while Bunaz and Envario investigated the bodies. From the examination of the bodies, Envario believed that the dead were killed by a Skeletal Dragon. The mention of the undead brought up the Momon and how he defeated one one E-Rantel among Fist. Though Antwali brought the workers back to focus and had Bunaz and Candelon check on the interior of the tower which they confirmed to be fine.

Antwali then had the porters and Inspector take shelter inside the tower. While he and the others prepared the dead for burial. Antwali heled Diezt dig the graves, as the rest of the team worked on their assignments. To kill time, Antwali wanted to go back on the topic of the adamantite adventurer named Momon defeating a Skeletal Dragon. Although Antwali was more interested in learning about the traits of the undead than Momon fought, than the adventurer.

The conversation was interrupted when an actual Skeletal Dragon burst from the fog and onto the grounds of the Broke Tower. Antwali and Dietz then confronted the dragon, attacking on different sides, trying to bash the skeletal body. The dragon attempted to swipe at the workers, but failing that on the ground, returned to the air and aimed at Antwali. Antwali was saved by Envario who used [Wall of Stone] to shield him. However the barrier left Dietz alone with the undead. Antwali was about to order the remove of the barrier, when Bunaz alerted him that two more Skeletal Dragons were approaching.

Already struggling with one, Antwali seeing the odds being stacked, had Envario drop down the barrier to allow a summoned bear to substitute Dietz. Seeing that they would have better odds in fighting inside the tower, he gave the order to retreat. But one of the dragons blocked half of his team from retreating. Salvation came to his team when Darkness rode out to the rescue on Hamsuke, with Momon fighting two Skeletal Dragons while the hamster took came of the third.

Antwali with his team watched Momon's fight against the undead dragon. Stunned he could only look in awe at Momon's heroic fighting abilities, though was curious to his unique Martial Arts. Though his concerns were dismissed by his teammates.[2]

When Darkness came out victorious against the Skeletal Dragons, Antwali was the first to approach the adamantite adventurer and introduce himself and his team. From the adventurers he learned of their mission from the Sorcerer Kingdom to seek out the Ghost Ship of Katze Plains. Fist could not provide anything new to share about the Ghost Ship, Antwali decided to have his team return to Vadis. Given the abnormal appearance of the Skeletal Dragons, Antwali believed that something big was happening to the Katze Plains.[3]

Later back at Vadis, atop the walls of the city, Antwali and his team were trying to determine what they should do. Antwali believed it would be a bad idea to go to the Sorcerer Kingdom, at least until Momon returned or unless they know the full situation there. Though Antwali and the others had doubts that Momon would return alive as they suspected that the anomalous undead they encountered in the plains was the result of the Sorcerer King amassing undead forces. Worse they felt that Momon was sent by the Sorcerer Kingdom to the plains to die.

Antwali and his friends though would be amazed and shocked when the Ghost Ship actually emerged from the fog and passed the city, with Momon and Nabe riding on its deck. The worker was heard declaring that Momon had overcome the schemes of the Sorcerer Kingdom. The excitement though turned to confusion for ANtwali and the workers when they saw a giant crab on the ship as well.[4]

Abilities and Powers[]

Antwali was a veteran warrior and worker experienced in undead subjugations. The warrior had had no skills related to reconnaissance, but was found at the vanguard even so. This was due to his intuition. At work, Antwali's intuition could feel for malicious things with a rather high probability. It was thanks to this ability that Antwali had an outstanding aptitude for preventing an enemy’s surprise attack before it could happen. Hence he was referred to as the sword of his team.

Main Equipment[]

  • Armor: Antwali wore an unusual suit of armor—a breastplate that had the head of a howling wolf jutting out, Under which there was either a surcoat or chainmail that dangled down to his feet.
  • Gauntlets: A repulsive pair of gauntlets—undoubtedly magic items— were fitted and looked like they had been made by tearing off the skin of some kind of beast.
  • Footman's Flail: Antwali's primary weapon which he holds in his right hand. Its kisten—the head of the shorter part of a flail—was grim, metallic, and covered in spikes.

Relationships[]

Bunaz[]

Antwali appears to get along with Bunaz, as they work closely as vanguards in their team's formation, with Bunaz compensating for Antwali's lack of reconnaissance skills. Due to their contrasting appearances, Antwali being a feral-looking, while Bunaz resembled a feminine it have the impression that of a real-life Beauty and the Beast.

Candelon Gaelian[]

Antiwali finds Candelon too be too conspicuous and loud in certain situations. In one situation when Candelon praised his idol Momon for being a hero for slaying the wicked undead, spilling his drink in the face of the leader of Fist.

Dietz Elderwood[]

Antwali sees Dietz to be a man who is only interested in fighting the undead. Though he was known to draw trouble to the team, due to his sense of justice. And while Antwali would have preferred he sit out at times, recognizes his superior ability.

Momon[]

Antwali knew of Momon's reputation. Unlike some of his teammates he did not initially share in their adoration for Momon. Mostly due to believing that the worlds they lived in were too different—Momon being a great man from a different world, who was someone he could only admire from afar. Akin to a hero in the tales sung by bards. Antwali admitted that if he were still a naive child, he would extoll Momon, but not anymore after learning too much about the world.

However upon meeting the adventurer and seeing him in action. Antwali focused on studying Momon's physical abilities, however they were so confusing and yet so impossible that he could not help but be in awe. Antwali believed that couldn’t understand Momon’s intentions because he was not on the same level as Momon, a warrior at the highest level which he found vexing. Though upon seeing Momon in action and achieve impossible feats, he started to admire him like the rest of his team, rekindling his belief in heroes.

Envario[]

Antwali trusted Envario's abilities as powerful magic caster, and sought his advice on matters regarding the undead. Though Antwali understood that the magic caster was physically the weakest in the group, and was willing to sacrifice him if necessary for the survival of the team. He also expressed some reproachment towards Envario when he voiced his doubts of the existence of the Ghost Ship, in front of the savior as it was rude.

Trivia[]

  • Antwali's intuition is suggested to be an ability whose origin laid in some superpower that he had been born with. Which would suggest its actually a talent.
