Anti-Jircniv Faction (反ジルクニフ派) was an anti-imperial faction that existed within the Baharuth Empire, comprised of three individuals who sought to launch a coup d'état against Emperor Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix.
Background[]
The Anti-Jircniv Faction was a small sub-faction of the Anti-Imperial Faction, made up of current and former nobles of the Baharuth Empire and a who plotted a rebellion against Emperor Jircniv, due to having been wronged by the tyrannical emperor.
A trio belong to the faction, composed of two former nobles and a merchant, began to take independent action, after hearing news of how the Bloody Emperor escaped death at the expense of one of his knights. Though it was the rumors circulating among the imperial citizens, of how the emperor was now captivated by the heroes of other nations than the knights who serve him that cause much amusement. The members of the faction took this to signs that the emperor had lost his taste for blood after being crushed by a demon. Evidence of weakness, the trio vowed to regain the glory of the Baharuth Empire by striking at the emperor themselves in a planned uprising.
However, in order to start their uprising, they needed to build on their foundation. Thus, a smuggling operation was created to finance their agenda to buy weapons and slaves to fight for them. To that end they solicited the aid of the worker Zero who was no stranger to being backstabbed by the emperor to their cause.
Chronology[]
Mass for the Dead Arc[]
- Main article: Mass for the Dead Arc
The faction reached out to Zero and his remaining members of Six Arms in aiding them in establishing a smuggling route through the Katze Plains. He was tasked to lead a large scale subjugation of undead to prepare a route for weapons and slave smuggling for an armed uprising in the Empire.
Unknown to Zero and the nobles, the Sorcerer Kingdom caught wind of the undead subjugation. It was of particular interest of Momonga as the area where Zero was leading the workers was where Shalltear Bloodfallen was brainwashed. Believing there was a connection to the identity of who brainwashed his Floor Guardian, Momonga ordered Lupusregina Beta and CZ2128 Delta infiltrate the subjugation as workers, under the identities of Regi and Shizuni.
The move to clear a small region of the Katze Plains of undead for a stable smuggling route was infeasible, even with Zero and his army of workers. However, Zero had a plan to make his clients plan successful, as he sought out an elder lich that could control the undead, the Captain of the Ghost Ship who prowled the plains on his vessel. It was by coincidence that the Sorcerer King had claimed the derelict Ghost Ship which belonged to the lich, who had perished sometime before the start of the undead subjugation. Momonga using a random corpse of an adventurer created an elder lich named Iguva to assume the role of the captain so that it could be used as an asset to claim the Katze Plains as part of his domain. Upon learning that Zero was seeking the undead, Momonga assigned his creation to approach Zero, and do whatever it took to join his inner circle, so that he could learn more of what the worker was up to.
A meeting between lich and workers was orchestrated by Nazarick. Iguva emerged from the fog of the plains to destroy the workers, giving them the image of a arrogant undead magic caster. Zero challenged the undead and after defeated Iguva, who pleaded for his life to show his subservience. After the human and undead established an agreement, with Iguva joining Zero's worker team, the workers brough Iguva and his Ghost Ship to their hideout.
Iguva infiltration of the conspiracy would later be joined by Regi and Shizuni, having impressed Zero and were recruited by Malmvist as final members of their new worker team. Zero would then introduce Iguva to his clients, two former nobles and a merchant who belonged to the Anti-Jircniv Faction. With the lich's inclusion the faction's plan could then proceed which was to have the workers and undead guide a convoy of the faction to test out the smuggling route. Once the route was confirmed to be secured an a proper foothold established they would then procced to finish negotiating with their trade partners, the Slane Theocracy, to gain access to weapons and manpower in the form of elven slaves.
Zero having reconvene with his old and new teammates then formally announced the creation of a new team New Six Arms. The workers then acted as escorts, for the trio of the faction. Officially they were to take a route from Arwintar to E-Rantel, however instead of heading to the fortress city, the caravan would go to the Kazte Plains where they would rendezvous with the Ghost Ship which guided by Iguva take them through the undead wasteland to their meeting point with representatives of the Theocracy.
Under Iguva's guidance, he manipulated the nearby undead to ignore the trading caravan. Though there were some undead that even Iguva could not control such as a Death Knight and Skeletal Dragon forcing the workers to defend their clients. However midway they were stopped by none other than Emperor Jircniv and his three Imperial Knights. To the dismay of the trio, their plans for the coup had been exposed by Zero, who was still under the service of the emperor, who offered him the promise of making him a knight to bring the rebels to him. Faced against the Imperial Knights and New Six Arms, the anti-imperialists refused to surrender, a sentiment that was shared by their loyal workers who were committed to the rebellion against Jircniv. Despite their numbers, the rebels were crushed and those that survived were captured by the imperial authorities.
In spite of Zero's hard work, the emperor delayed his knighthood under pretense of making proper arrangements. While this dissatisfied Zero, he was content to remain a worker and remain with New Six Arms. Which served Nazarick just fine as they now had convenient spies within the inner workings of the Empire. Meanwhile Jircniv grows concerns of the attempted rebellion, suspecting that the rebels were motivated after the defection of Fluder Paradyne who was still currently missing.[1]
Strength[]
The faction was actually a sub-faction originally belonging to a loose association of disgruntled influential people who hated the emperor. This made up the anti-imperial faction but the mainstream faction was disunited and thus could not effectively coordinate. Among their number were not just nobles but former nobles from the old regime of the Empire, who still retained enough influence to organize a covert operation, with merchants associates.
Members of this sub-faction, appear to possess great wealth, as they hired a great number of workers to serve as their armed forced in their bid to take over the Empire. The workers interestingly while being paid for their services, were committed to the cause of the faction, willingly joined due to seeking revenge against the emperor for sacrificing their comrades. Not only that the scope of a trio of the faction's wealth also included the ability to collect valuable items such as dwarven runecraft weapons to present to their trade partners in the Theocracy as gifts to make a great first impression.
Trivia[]
- While non-canon, this is the second politically subversive organization to exist in the Overlord series, aimed at defeating a specific sovereign of a nation. The first being the Anti-Sorcerer Kingdom Alliance that Jircniv attempted to form against the Sorcerer King.
