Alraunes (花妖娘) are a species of mandrakes.

Background

Alraunes are a species of mandrakes and are related to two known cousin species: Galgenmaennlein and Alruna.

Appearance

At first glance in their passive form, alraunes appear as flower buds, large enough to engulf an entire person. Inside the flower bud when it opens reveals body and face.

Abilities

According to Sous-chef, alraunes are much more intelligent than base stock mandrakes. Later it is shown that they are capable of coherent speech. Similar to mandrakes alraunes are able to hide under the soil and spring out. Though their levels appear to be below the 60s.

Culture

From what Ainz Ooal Gown inferred from alraune culture, they possess a hierarchy. Leaders speak for the whole, acting as their representative. During meetings with outsiders only leaders bloom their faces and bodies before their guests in order to speak with them. Meanwhile subordinate alraune do not bloom before their guests, keeping their heads partially covered only stealing peaks through their petals. While seemingly discourteous, it is believed by Ainz to actually be a form of respect in alraune culture.
