What is this event that even the guardians are unaware of?[1]
Incident[]
On one particular day, an inspection team from the Quadripartite Alliancewas visiting E-Rantel. Inside a carriage, the protagonist is giving a briefing to the representatives of the nations in the Alliance on the security of the city, like pointing out to them that there are six undead on guard duty to deal with a Crack that their carriage just passed. Albedo of the Sorcerer Kingdom admits while the number six may see a bit much, there is one skeleton on standby that is ordered to send out a noroshi or smoke signal to warn adventurers and guards of the appearance of a Chaos Beast. Furthermore, should that skeleton see a reaction from the Crack it will also strike a set of hyōshigi or clappers, this way alerts notifying that there is an enemy can be both visually and audibly.
The other riders in the carriage, composed of Emperor Jircniv, King Zanac and Cardinal Raymond listen to the lecture. Cardinal Raymond is the first to speak, finding that the double warning alerts to be impressively curious. The protagonist explains that the notifications are to ensure that people who move slower than normal, such as children and the elderly, do not get left behind or injured. The most important purpose of the sound is to help people in the area to escape, Unfortunately as Albedo adds, the undead are not capable of complex thinking like picking up children and letting them go, or supporting an elderly so they don't fall. Thus by informing the city folk and adventurers of the dangers in advance, it will be up to them to help each other.
To Jircniv, he finds this to be wonderful, as it's a consideration to make sur that no one gets left behind and gets caught up in the fighting and something necessary given that there are Cracks all over the city. Raymond reluctantly expressing agreement on this. One of the positive points raised by Zanac on the undead, is that they can stare at the Cracks all night even while people are sleeping without getting tired. It's so safe that even a person can walk home drunk in the city. This is deemed to be good facets by Jircniv as if the lives of ordinary people remain the same as they were before the outbreak, future generations will write that the incident at the end of the conflict was no big deal.
For the King of the Re-Estize Kingdom, he never though there would be a situation in this world where he would be happy if wise men who read history books laughed at him. But that goes to show what a strange world they now live in. All this is being attributing by Jircniv of being possible because of the Sorcerer Kingdom, which lends undead to help with security in order to ensure E-Rantel's security system is perfect.
In response to the review of the security of E-Rantel, Albedo thanks her peers for their approval. Zanac still finds it scary to think that this situation would have developed into one where human eyes would have to watch over every Crack, day and night. He dared to imagine the repercussions if the Cracks had appeared throughout the Kingdom. And even did some theoretical calculations on what it would cost to have constant guards and adventurers on guard against the Cracks, and it turned out to require an incredibly large budget. Now that no longer matters as the reliance of undead is steadily increasing.
Jircniv voices that the Empire has also done some calculations. Otherwise, the undead haters would be reluctant to pay for the loan of the undead and would be happy to use manpower to strain the national treasury. The emperor notices that the cardinal in the carriage has been silent on this talk about cost savings the Empire and Kingdom have benefited from the undead. So Jircniv apologies to Raymond, given the doctrine of the Theocracy, things cannot be helped, and so he has no intention of criticizing the nation.
In response, Raymond feels what the emperor says is only natural. And, although it's true that there are some part of the Theocracy's doctrine that are hard to accept, thanks to the various forms of assistance from the Sorcerer Kingdom, the people are able to live in peace. And for the cardinal, he can't express his gratitude enough, including the ongoing rescue efforts to bring the residents into the area.
Albedo is honored the words of the cardinal. Though Raymond as a but coming, which the protagonist asks him to elaborate. Raymond stroking his beard goes on to say that he was disappointed that His Majesty the Sorcerer King was not able to be present during the inspection as he had been looking forward to the opportunity to express his gratitude in person. Admittingly so, the protagonist internally agrees there had been discussions on the next place to visit for the inspection, and Raymond's interest in meeting the Sorcerer Kingdom.
It happened in the venue in the Quadripartite Alliance's headquarters in E-Rantel. The homunculus can even recall saying to the representatives of the Alliance, that he confirmed that the Sorcerer King intended to participate in ceremonies and other events, but since he is currently focusing on national policy, it is not possible for him to leave the country immediately. However, since all the allied nations representatives all seemed very positive about him participating, the protagonist expressed that he is sure that day will soon come someday.
Zanac saw that it looks like the Sorcerer King won't be coming to the next Kingdom inspection, but was very happy to think that they will be able to become closer to the Sorcerer Kingdom in the future. From the Emperor of the Baharuth, Jircniv wished the protagonist would relay to the Sorcerer King that he is truly looking forward to the day he can see his face. Adding that the Empire is prepared to hold a welcoming ceremony for him at any time. And finally Raymond who hesitantly voiced his eagerness for the day to meet the sovereign. In the mean time, until her liege appears, Albedo asks for her peers for their understanding and that for the time being she and other will act in the Sorcerer King's place.
Back in the carriage, the protagonist understands that it has been awhile since he has been able to see his liege, but asks the others that they wait a bit longer. Albedo adds that there are many things that she and the protagonist alone cannot cover, and so apologizes to everyone for that.
