If I had to describe the general feel of Overlord in every aspect from world, protagonist, plot and all. I would have to say it feels like an expertly mixed combination of Sword Art Online, Dungeons and Dragons, No Game No Life and Dragonball Z, with maybe a touch of Berserk. With The World's Dumbest Genius as The Protagonist who is very morally grey and OP from being an avid gamer who usually wrecks his enemies because most inhabitants of The New World are far too weak.
I don’t get much of the Beserk, DBZ, SAO or No Game No Life vibe from it. More of a Log Horizon vibe with some Goblin Slayer and DanMachi.
Ainz Ooal Gown reminds me of the somewhat jaded MMO gamer who has sort of got sick of endgame, but mostly bcuz they’ve done it all. Like many gamers the game world kind of perverts their sense of morality, but it isn’t gone... just a bit twisted.
Berserk because it gets morally grey, DBZ because some of the action sequences and cocky people getting wrecked and SAO because OP protagonist with "Harem" that gets isekai'd.
I guess I see the Berserk and SAO elements, but the DBZ one still seems like a stretch.
Meh.
What do you think?
